The aim of this design was to aid in a needed increase academic literacy at ECI by promoting the services of the Writing Centre, located in an obscure location within the institute. Targeting ESL students, Japanese, Korean, Chinese and English characters make cryptic sentences at the bottom of the steps. While climbing and reading the stairs, jumbled grammars form clear sentences. Understanding is attained at the top of the steps, where directional arrows guide a person to the Centre. As a result, attendance increased dramatically and more contact hours were added to accommodate the influx of new visitors to the Centre.
