Medical assist device, materials: aluminum, maple, size: h 50 mm / w 65 mm / 25 mm
This project began when I attended a screening of the documentary Citizen Sam, which followed the political campaign of Vancouver Mayor Sam Sullivan. Studying the film I was taken with the struggles that he and many people living with a spinal cord injury (sci) deal with everyday. The forms and jewelry aesthetics were driven by the sentiment that medical devices don’t always need to look like “medical devices”. The reality is that users don’t want to look like a patient; they want to look cool like anyone else.
