In 2003 I worked for my sister on various construction sites in and around Fort St. John, BC as a first aid attendant. On my first day it was explained that although I thought that I was doing some sort of “first aiding job” my real role was “eye candy for the working men on site”. Working as a first aid attendant, or as a “helper”, is often the only job women can get in the field. Numerous women are fired or not hired for being too old, fat, or simply unattractive. This woman was sadly one of the former.
