Edmonton, Alberta for me is a non-place and a personal heterotopia. The Albertan landscape intrinsically creates a feeling of home for me because I grew up with the characteristic infinite horizons. There is a paradoxical relationship that holds me between the encompassing space of threatening solitude in my parents house, and the safe feeling of “home” in the open prairie. Heterotopia and Home relates the experience of going back to a place that does not leave me even if I leave Alberta; a place in-between the real and the imagined; my experiences and remembered past.
