My photography works to confront the binaries I observe within the manners in which humans address animals. There are those we cherish, those we abhor, those we regard as family members, and those we regard as pests. Within these inconsistencies, I aim to invoke self-reflection in the viewer: where do these binaries come from? Who, or what, perpetuates them, and what are their full implications? For over a year I have been photographing the animals of SAINTS (Senior Animals In Need Today Society), an end-of-life shelter located in Mission. It is at SAINTS where these binaries are consciously dismantled; my hope lies in the example SAINTS may set for our future perceptions of animals.
