An installation consisting of an eight minute, looped video projection which contains a 2´× 3´color photographic print within the 8´× 6´screening area.
In my art practice I am drawn to broad cultural issues and individual inner realities, typically dealing with matters that are just below the surface, avoided or disregarded. In the installation, The Cross She Bears, Crissy’s tattoo is an act of branding her body in honor of her deceased brother, Peter. He is the one person in her adoptive family who totally accepted her. As the poignant story unfolds it touches on issues about the politics of the body, longing, loss and remembrance. It emphasizes the clash between Crissy’s desire for independence and individuality versus her desire for belonging and acceptance.
