My recent paintings are inspired by an enduring fascination with woven patterns found in textiles as well as the impact of hurricane and wind storms, which destroyed large areas of old growth forest on British Columbia’s West Coast. As a consequence of investigating extreme changes in weather patterns and their impact on forests, I have been struck by the similarities between the structure of woven patterns and the intricate structural patterns that support the life system of old trees. Over time, both will atrophy and decay. There is an intricate beauty found in fallen trees and their inevitable decay, followed by re-birth into the ecology of a new life cycle.
