My work addresses the traditions of Geometric Abstraction and the process or logic of systematic painting. I am interested in what happens when the simplicity of form, content and composition associated with Geometric and Optical Abstraction is complicated or ruptured in some way. Made using tape and oil paint, these paintings imitate measured and precise methods of working, but are set up to subvert the expectations of perfection associated with the genre. Bright, almost garish pop-inspired colors, multiple or conflicting perspectives, and imperfectly executed systems all work to create compositions which explore pictorial tension and seek to humanize systematic painting.
