51˝ x 60˝, oil on canvas
A collapsed building remains vacant in an empty lot, setting the stage for a transformation of bending steel and wooden beams that jolt and disorder the environment. I aim to capture the brutal physical nature of wreckage: a lament for the past within ruined landscapes. Sourced from photographs then translated into paintings, images become re-activated and explosive, as if caught in the act of a crash in mid-action. Disjointed lines and rhythms map the picture plane, drawing the viewer in and out of the recognizable components of industrial materials and structures in the landscape.
